Be the next key member of our Rail Switching Team as the PSC Group is now hiring for Switchman in the Nekoosa, WI area! Spend your days along the rail tracks and work as a team with the engineer on the train to safely move railcars in, out and around the facility. This is a regular full-time position so if you are looking for a stable, long-term career in a booming industry, then consider joining the PSC Group family!

Work Schedule: 8 hour rotating shift schedule

Pay Range: Starting at $20.00 with opportunity for advancement

Rail Swiwtching: 
  • Examines track list to spot, separate, load and/or build railcars for shipment
  • Ensures railcars are properly connected and/or are secured by setting the brake
  • Separates loaded railcars that will be shipped from those that have been preloaded
  • Weighs all inbound and outbound loads and empties to ensure weights do not exceed
  • Completes any other duties that may be assigned to complete the job.
Track Maintenance:
  • Repairs and rebuilds railroad tracks, using power and non-power hand tools
  • Pull spikes from ties, drills holes through rails for insertion and fastening of bolts, and replaces ballast
  • Operates large non-powered hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes, cutters, and sledgehammers
  • Operates proper electric, pneumatic, or hydraulic hand tools such as drills, impact wrenches, jacks, power saws, and grinders
  • Lifts and carries track material
  • Assists with re-railing of derailed railcars
  • Completes any other duties that may be assigned to complete the job

Job Qualifications:
  • Experience is a plus but not required, and paid on-the-job training is available 
  • May require a valid Driver’s License and / or a valid TWIC card, depending on work location
  • 18 years or older and legally able to work in the U.S.
  • Pass a drug screen, physical, and background check
  • Previous military experience and proven ability to follow procedures is a plus.
